I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas (UNT). Prior to joining UNT in 2025, I was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science  and the Bachelor of Innovation program at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS), where I served from 2019 to 2025. During my time at UCCS, I also held a secondary faculty appointment in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the  University of Colorado School of Medicine | Anschutz Medical Campus. I was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure at UCCS in 2025 before transitioning to UNT.

My research centers on Artificial Intelligence in Biology, where I develop and apply advanced AI methods to address fundamental challenges in genomics and computational biology. I focus on leveraging machine learning and deep learning to model complex biological systems and extract meaningful insights from high-dimensional biomedical data.  Specific research interests are in the following areas: Bioinformatics & Computational Biology; Machine learning & Data Mining; Deep LearningReinforcement Learning.

I developed a software app, called EyeCYou, that uses AI to provide the facial description of a person to the visually impaired. Find details here: EyeCYou for the visually impaired
